Gyral Tides Privacy Policy

Gyral Tides is a map-based app for seeing what's happening near the water, provided by Gyral LLC ("we"). We try to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

Anonymous usage analytics

If enabled, Gyral Tides shares anonymous usage statistics through TelemetryDeck to help us understand which features are used and improve the app. This includes:

We do not collect your IP address, advertising identifiers, cookies, or precise/GPS location through analytics. This data is never used to track you across other apps or websites.

Your choice: analytics are controlled by "Share Anonymous Usage Stats" in Settings ▸ Privacy. When off, no usage data leaves your device.

Feedback you send

If you use Send Feedback, we receive the message you write, the optional email address you provide, and basic device/version metadata (model, OS version, app version/build, locale) to help us reproduce issues. Submissions are stored on our server and emailed to us; we also record the request's IP address for abuse prevention. We use this only to respond to and act on your feedback.

Location

Gyral Tides uses your device location to center the map, find nearby places, and scope marine-warning alerts. Most processing happens on your device. To fetch tide, marine-weather, and marine-warning information, the map's center coordinates are sent to our backend services. Local weather forecasts come from Apple Weather (Apple's WeatherKit service), which receives the coordinates being viewed. We do not store a history of your location.

Service authentication

To request weather, tide, and marine data from our backend services, the app obtains a short-lived access token. When requesting a token, it sends a randomly generated per-install identifier created by the app on first launch. This identifier is not derived from your device, Apple ID, or any personal information, and is removed when you delete the app.

Notifications

If you opt in to marine-warning notifications, Gyral Tides checks for active warnings near your last known location in the background and may post a local notification.

Third-party data sources

Gyral Tides displays data from third parties, including NOAA / National Weather Service, Open-Meteo, E.U. Copernicus Marine Service, OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, Apple Weather, and Apple Maps. No user accounts

Gyral Tides has no sign-up, sign-in, or user profile — there are no accounts to create or delete, and we store no account credentials or profile data. The only information we hold is described under "Feedback you send" and "Anonymous usage analytics" above.

Data retention

Feedback submissions are retained as long as needed to act on them. Anonymous analytics are retained per TelemetryDeck's policies.

Your data rights

To request a copy of, or deletion of, feedback you have sent us, email info@gyral.io. On a deletion request we remove both the submission stored on our server and the copy in our email inbox. Because feedback is not tied to an account, please write from the email address you supplied with the submission, or include enough of the original message for us to find it.

Analytics records carry only a one-way salted hash of your device's vendor identifier — no name, email address, or account is attached — so we have no way to match them back to an individual person, and therefore no way to retrieve or delete one person's records on request. You can stop analytics collection at any time with "Share Anonymous Usage Stats" in Settings ▸ Privacy.

Children

Gyral Tides is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
